I'm teaching Kaelin's 2nd grade class with my friend, Angie, and so far we've had a great week! We have music with one of the first grade classes and today there was discussion about what heaven is like. One of the first grader's said, "Heaven's like Chuck E. Cheese's." I suppose that's an accurate statement for a 7 year old!
I survived another year of VBS. Just barely. We had a little boy in our class who is ADD, but was off his meds for the summer. Thank God Theresa had the patience to deal with him because I just didn't. I think part of his problem was ADD, and part of his problem was simply that he has no boundaries. It was crazy. But as a result, I've decided that I need to do some reading up on ADD. It's not something that I know a whole lot about. Same with autism...I need to do some reading on that, too. So if anyone reading this post can recommend some good resources on either of those conditions, please leave a comment and tell me.
Free - it's a great word. Especially when something you like or want is free. Tonight from 8 - 12 our Sonic is giving away free root beer floats. How cool is that? They're about half the size of a regular root beer float, but, hey, they're free! But I mentioned that already.
In other news...tomorrow is the last day of Bible School. I have had a great time this week and it has truly been a privilege to see all of those kids at the church, having fun and learning important biblical truths. It's been a wonderful experience working with my dear friend, Wendy, and having Kaelin in my class. Kaelin is turning into such an individual it just blows my mind sometimes. Weeks like this one are the memories that moms tuck in their hearts and keep forever. I have also been shocked somewhat back into reality seeing the kids who are now in the youth group that I taught in VBS so many years ago. I specifically remember these 2 boys that I had when they were in 5th grade. Several years ago they were the class clowns who lived in their own little world but could answer any question I threw at them - eloquently and correctly. This week they were 2 of the main players in the youth drama that they have been presenting to the younger kids all week. I love seeing them use their talents and personalities for something so good.
And still in other news...Kaelin's ballet/tap recital is on Saturday. Her ballet is to "The Rainbow Connection" (yes, the Kermit the Frog song) and her tap is to a song called, "Together." Her costumes are absolutely gorgeous. And, yes, there will be pictures. : )
It is time to get the story ready for tomorrow...and then it's off to dreamland. VBS week is awesome, but it's exhausting!
I received a complaint this morning that I had not updated my blog in a few days. So here I am...updating my blog. This week is Bible School week at my church. The theme this year is a good one - sports. Each age group is a different sport. I'm teaching kindergarten because I wanted to be with Kaelin, and our sport is basketball. My friend Wendy and I are teaching together and her son is our youth helper. These are both good things. Today went smoothly. I think the kids had a good time, too.
Yesterday Wendy and I went to Party Pig to buy the decorations for our room and we found some silly basketball headgear that we thought would be cute. So today I wore a hat that looked like a basketball and Wendy had a headband with 2 basketballs on it. Fun stuff!! Tomorrow she gets the hat and I get the headband. After tomorrow we'll see if the headgear remains.
I've got to take the kids to their dentist (they *love* going to see Dr. Burt), but I will leave you with 2 pictures from this morning. The first one is the kids and me in our Game Day Central t-shirts, and the second is of Wendy and me in our basketball hats.
