Today is Collin's 6th birthday. Wow! Those years sure have gone by quickly. This morning he was so excited about it being his birthday! He told me he is taller today, and he asked if he could open his presents before school. His party is tomorrow and he can't wait.

happy kid and goes along with everything. He can be the most stubborn human being on the planet if he chooses, but normally he just has fun wherever he is. He is smart and creative - you should see the Star Wars pictures he draws. You can tell what characters and ships they are. We are working on listening more and talking less, but something tells me he is going to struggle with that for the rest of his life. Good thing he's so cute!

Last Friday we celebrated Kaelin's birthday with her friends. I had convinced her to wait until the Hannah Montana

movie came out (thanks, Melissa, for that idea) to have her friend party, and she thought it sounded fun so she agreed. It was just over a month, and she was very patient. The girls came to our house, I took them to the movie (6 girls total), I bought them each a drink and a small bag of popcorn per 2 girls, and then we had a sleepover at our house, complete with presents and cupcakes. Shockingly, there was no drama among the 5 girls (1 did not spend the night) and everybody seemed to have a really good time.

The Hannah Montana movie is actually pretty good. It deserves its G rating as there is absolutely no language or situations that are offensive. Even the outfits that Miley and Lilly wear are acceptable to this very conservative dresser. The production quality is much better than the tv show, and, much to my surprise, the storyline is quite good. It is somewhat predictable, but still good. As always, Miley learns a life lesson or 2, and in the end, everybody is happy. If you are the parent of a Hannah Montana fan, I would urge you to take your HM fan to see the movie. As a side note, I loved hearing all the little girls sing along with the songs in the movie. It was so cute!

I stumbled upon the cutest blouse from the Hannah Montana line of clothing at Wal-Mart. It was on the clearance rack for $3, so I bought it for Kaelin and she loved it. I knew she would. She wore it to the movie of course!

It's Been 8 Years

8 years ago, my beautiful daughter came into this world. She was born via c-section, so I got to see her just for a minute and then she was taken to the nursery and I went to recovery. Once I got into a room, Cole and our parents came in and my mom started describing Kaelin and she told me Kaelin had blonde hair that stood up everywhere - kind of like Rod Stewart. And then my dad told me that my grandpa (his dad who had suffered from Alzheimer's for years) had died at about the same time Kaelin was born. Crazy! It was a bittersweet day.

In the 8 years that Kaelin has been in my life she has brought so much joy to it. She has the sweetest little spirit, but she can be incredibly hard-headed, too. She has a mind of her own complete with her own tastes and opinions. She amazes me every single day. I think Kaelin is beautiful, and I have a lot of pictures of her that I love, but this is one of my favorites...

Happy 11th Birthday To Brendan!

Brendan is 11! He had a little birthday party with a few of his friends. They ate pizza, birthday brownies, and played Wii. He got some great presents - Scene It sports edition, Game Stop gift cards, and from us he got a guitar. It's a beginner series Fender Stratocaster. He is very excited about it!

Below are a few pictures from Brendan's party. There is a "1" candle on his birthday cake because I didn't think to get another 1 candle and that's as close to 11 as I could get with what we had on hand. He didn't seem to mind.

So I'm sitting here thinking I should update my blog, but I really don't have much to say about any 1 thing. I thought I'd do one of my bullet point blog posts instead. Here we go:

- I wore my first Christmas sweatshirt of the season (my red Snoopy one) and it felt sooooo good.

- Kaelin asked me today if we are going to celebrate Kwanzaa.

- My house is complete chaos right now because we are having hard wood floors installed. It's very inconvenient, but the floors look great and we've bought a lot of new furniture, so the house will have a different look when all is said and done.

- I haven't been able to go to sleep for the past 2 nights.

- Only 7 more days of school before Christmas break.

- My class is the nativity in the Christmas program and I'm very excited about this!

- Brendan doesn't know it, but he is getting an electric guitar for his birthday. I've consulted a professional musician to help me with this purchase and I can't wait to give Brendan his birthday present.

- Collin has been sick for the past 2 days and we are looking forward to sending him to school tomorrow.

- I am feeling a little stressed because I do not have a single Christmas decoration up due to the floor project.

- I've got quite a few Christmas presents bought and I still have a bunch to go.

- I spent more money on our family pictures than I've ever spent before and it was worth every penny.

- Cole has to go to New Hampshire for 4 days in a couple of weeks. I can't imagine how miserable New Hampshire in December must be.

- It is almost 11:00 and I am really tired since I haven't slept well for the past 2 nights. Time to give sleep a try.

Last night we celebrated my birthday at The Oasis. It is a restaurant on the lake that is known for beautiful sunset

views. The food is much improved. I had fried shrimp and it was yummy!! Cole got me a very cool cake that had a picture of the kids on it. He did that on his own...I just told him that I definitely wanted a cake. He remembered that I like the Target bakery much better than Wal-Mart or HEB, and he got it from Target. A lot of our friends were there and it was a fun night. The Oasis caught on fire a few years ago, and when it was rebuilt it grew... a lot. The place is huge now, and there is a bar with a dance floor on the third floor. In an unusual twist, we weren't the oldest people in the place. There were a lot of people older than us who likely went straight from work to the restaurant and started drinking. They were great entertainment! We had a lot of fun watching their smooth moves. ; )

I enjoyed my party very much. I feel so blessed that God has surrounded me with the awesome people that are in my life. I just hope that I am at least half the blessing to them that they are to me. I look forward to many more celebrations with them.

I don't have anything specific I want to post about. But I have plenty of thoughts buzzing through my head right now, so I will do a bullet point post (without the bullets).

1. Tomorrow is my 37th birthday. How did that happen?? It just doesn't seem possible that I am this close to 40.

2. I heard Darius Rucker on KASE 101 today. I had no idea he had recorded a country album, but he sounds pretty darn good. The dj said the song had hit number 1. Way to go Darius Rucker!!

3. I just really am not interested in hearing Hollywood's take on the upcoming election, and I am tired of being told by these people who I should vote for. You people are actors and actresses, not political experts. Keep it to yourself.

4. My preschool class is *awesome*. I so loved my class last year, and I didn't think I could love another class that much. But I do. They are so sweet and they make me smile on a daily basis.

5. After 4 years of working at the same place, and with mostly the same people, I still love my job. We have had a couple of tense moments this year, but we move on.

6. I am doing a Bible study on Monday nights about the Sermon on the Mount. As much as I want to do this, I'm not sure I can keep up with it. This makes me sad.

7. My kids are incredible. They are all such unique individuals and I love talking to them and spending time with them. Tonight I taught Brendan how to make his beloved pumpkin muffins. He loves those things.

8. Yankee Candle has some delicious fall scents. I bought a pumpkin pie jar candle (at Brendan's request) and some frosted pumpkin votives. Yummy! They smell so good. I also bought a vanilla lime jar candle, and a lemon lavender jar candle. Love those Yankee Candles.

9. I really need to morph into a morning person. My natural clock just doesn't work for my life. I need to get to sleep by 10 and be up at 5. It's hard to get up at 5 when I don't usually get to sleep until midnight.

10. The new Chris Tomlin CD is playing right now on this computer. It's a good one. If you don't have it, go get it.

11. I am on David Crowder*Band's Remedy DVD in the Extras. This makes me very happy.

12. Tomorrow night we are meeting a bunch of friends at The Oasis for a little birthday celebration. I am very excited about it as I love to celebrate birthdays. We just won't talk about how old I will be.

13. This fall I am hoping to make popcorn balls and pumpkin creme cake. I saw a pumpkin creme cake at Wal-Mart tonight and I figure it can't be that hard. I am not really all that crazy about pumpkin, but Brendan is, so I know he will eat anything that I make with pumpkin.

14. I love Facebook! If you aren't on Facebook yet, get over there and check it out! I have reconnected with a lot of old friends and I love doing that kind of stuff. It's also neat to be able to see a little bit of what those around me do everyday.

15. I love, love, LOVE my Macbook.

16. It is 11:35 and I have plenty to do tomorrow, so I need to go to sleep.

Almost 11 years ago Cole and I walked into a church where we knew 2 people. We were expecting our first baby, building our first house, and trying to put down some roots somewhere. We went to the church services at this church for several months, and finally started going to an adult Sunday school class. In that Sunday school class not only did we rediscover God and find a church family, we found some of the sweetest friends any 2 people could have. Over the past 10 years with these friends, we've had babies and watched them grow, we've mourned the passing of parents and grandparents, we've watched our church go through major changes, we've loved, laughed, and we've celebrated new jobs, new houses, and birthdays. Oh, have we celebrated birthdays.

When we all met we were clueless twenty-somethings (no offense to other twenty-somethings...talk to me when you're in your late thirty-somethings) starting our families. Now we're all quickly passing through our thirties and we're enjoying watching our children, and each other's, grow up. And in our little group of friends, 2 of us just turned the big 4-0. So, Jay and Wendy, this post is celebrating you.

The two of you have been amazing friends to Cole and me over the past 10 years. We've enjoyed all the time we've spent together and we cherish the friendship between us. Wendy, I miss talking to you on the phone every day, comparing notes on the kids and discussing the church grapevine. ; ) Maybe someday when we're retired we'll have time to talk to each other constantly again. And, Jay, no one gets more excited about my Christmas letter than you do. Sorry I skipped it last year...this year I'll send out another one and your 40th birthday will get a BIG mention. ; ) It's been a fantastic 10 years with the 2 of you in our lives...here's hoping for many more years together. We love you both.

Last Saturday, we had Kaelin's 7th birthday party. Her birthday is not actually until March 9th, but we went ahead and had her party early because of Spring Break. It was at the ceramics store near the mall, and it was perfect for Kaelin and her friends. They all got to paint a little ceramic something or other...there were several choices including a fish, a dinosaur, a crab, a rhinoceros, etc. Fun stuff for 7 year old girls...and 2 brothers and 2 boy cousins. But everyone was old enough to enjoy it. The theme of her party was, of course, Hannah Montana, and she got pretty much every bit of Hannah Montana merchandise that is available. We are now the proud owners of the HM DVD game, 2 HM purses, a HM shirt, 1 new Webkins and 2 other stuffed animals that need to be taken care of online, more Littlest Pet Shop animals, and the swimming pool for the High School Musical barbies. Kaelin's room is a wonderland for 7year old girls.

I took a ton of pictures, but I don't like putting up pictures of other peoples' kids, so I can only put up a few.
